About Driftbound
Driftbound: Race in the Grip of Drift! takes the idea of drifting and gives it a mechanical twist. Instead of sliding round corners with the handbrake, you throw a hook at glowing magnets placed beside the road. While you hold on, the car swings around the bend on the end of the line. Let go at the right moment and it shoots out of the corner onto the next straight; let go too late and it flies off the edge.
The game, by MontePixel Studio, is viewed from above and runs on procedurally generated roads, so the bridges, junctions and weather change from run to run. Your car accelerates on its own, which leaves you free to concentrate on the rhythm of hooking and releasing.
How to play Driftbound
The main menu
On the left you will see the big Start Solo Run button and the control option. On the right is the Driver Hub, where you can visit the garage, check missions and daily bonuses, and spend cash on upgrades.
Hooking round a bend
As a bend approaches, hold the hook control. The car connects to the nearest magnet and starts to swing. Keep holding through the turn, then release when the car is lined up with the road ahead. The first run includes a short tutorial telling you to press and hold to catch the magnet, and the race waits until you do.
Steering mode
If you prefer to steer, the control setting lets you swap the hook for an on-screen steering wheel or left and right buttons. The hook is the signature mechanic, but the choice is there.
Solo and Rivals
Solo is about distance: survive as long as you can and set a record. Rivals puts AI cars on the road and asks you to finish ahead of them.
Tips for cleaner swings
- Hook late, release early. Grabbing the magnet too soon makes the swing wide.
- Look at the exit. Release when the nose points down the next straight, not when the bend looks finished.
- Spend on stability first. A steadier car makes every release more forgiving.
- Collect cash on straights. It is safer to grab money between bends than in the middle of a swing.
- Use the missions. They give you short goals that pay out extra cash for upgrades.
Common mistakes
The most common mistake is holding the hook for too long. Beginners wait until the car has gone all the way round, by which point it is already pointing at the verge. Another is ignoring the upgrades: a car with low stability wobbles on every release, so a little cash spent in the Driver Hub early on makes the whole game feel fairer.
Who will enjoy Driftbound
Driftbound suits players who like a single mechanic they can slowly master. If you enjoy its rhythm, try the hold-and-release timing of Drift Master, or the top-down time trials of Slide To Ride. There are more ideas in our drifting games.
