About Russian Drift: Overtaking in the City
Russian Drift: Overtaking in the City is a straightforward street driving game built around one old-school car. You begin in a brick garage where a boxy classic saloon turns slowly on a platform. Pick it, customise it if you like, and you are dropped onto a long city road full of traffic. The goal is to keep overtaking, keep moving and keep the score climbing.
Despite the title, this is less a technical drift game than a traffic-weaving one. The car slides when you switch lanes quickly at speed, and much of the fun comes from catching that slide and threading it between two slower vehicles. The developer, listed on Playgama as Tanat (Valera Fedorov), keeps the presentation simple: a score on the left, a speedometer on the right and a pause button in the middle.
How to play Russian Drift
From garage to road
The main menu leads to Select Car, where arrows move between cars and Customize lets you change their look. Start drops you onto the road straight away.
Controls
On a computer, W accelerates, S brakes and A and D steer. On a phone, on-screen buttons take their place. The car picks up speed quickly on the straight, so steering inputs need to be gentle.
Scoring
Your score rises as you drive and overtake. Hitting traffic slows you down and costs you the run's momentum, so clean overtakes matter more than raw speed.
Tips for cleaner overtakes
- Change lanes early. Starting a lane change a few car lengths back gives the slide time to settle.
- Use small steering taps. Holding A or D at high speed makes the rear swing wide.
- Brake before a gap, not in it. Lifting off inside a gap unsettles the car.
- Watch two cars ahead. The vehicle beyond the one you are passing often decides where the gap is.
- Keep the centre line in mind. Drifting onto the verge costs far more time than a slower pass.
Your first run
Spend the first minute driving at a moderate speed rather than flat out. The road is wide and the traffic predictable, so it is a good moment to learn how much the car slides when you change lanes. Once the movement feels natural, start building speed and taking tighter gaps. The score rewards distance and clean driving, so a calm start rarely costs you anything.
Customising your car
The Customize button on the car screen lets you change your car's look before you start. It does not change the driving, but choosing a colour that stands out against the grey road can make it easier to track your car at speed.
A different flavour of driving game
Russian Drift sits between our drifting and traffic racers. If you like weaving through traffic, Traffic Racer 3D offers short timed runs with near-miss bonuses, while Drift Master is a purer test of sliding. You can find them all in our drifting games.
