About Tractor Trial
Tractor Trial swaps sports cars for something much less glamorous and much more fun to wobble around: a farm tractor. You drive it across a side-scrolling off-road course full of hills, logs, rocks and traps, and the challenge is to reach the end of each stage without tipping over.
Tractors are heavy, slow and top-heavy, which makes every bump an adventure. Too much speed and the front lifts off the ground; too little and you will not make it up the next hill. The game is all about finding the balance between the two, which gives it a very different feel from the racing games elsewhere on the site.
How to play Tractor Trial
Controls
Keyboard players move the tractor with the arrow keys or W A S D, while phone and tablet players press the buttons shown on the screen. Forward and backward movement is how you control both speed and balance.
Keeping balance
Every obstacle tilts the tractor. Ease off before you reach a bump, let the tractor roll over it, then accelerate again once all four wheels are back on the ground. On steep climbs, steady pressure works better than flooring it.
Obstacles and traps
The course is full of things designed to trip you up. Watch the ground ahead, slow down for anything unusual and do not be afraid to roll back a little to try a better approach.
Tips for a smooth trial
- Slow is smooth. Most crashes happen because the tractor hit an obstacle too fast.
- Use reverse to balance. A short tap backwards can stop the front from lifting too high.
- Approach hills with momentum. A steady run-up helps you climb without stalling.
- Watch the landing. After a jump, land on both wheels before you accelerate again.
- Learn each stage. Traps are always in the same place, so every attempt teaches you something.
Physics makes the fun
Tractor Trial is a physics game at heart. The tractor reacts to every slope and bump, so no two attempts feel quite the same. That unpredictability is what makes a clean run so satisfying.
Why a tractor is the perfect challenge
Sports cars are built to grip the road, but a tractor is built to pull heavy loads slowly, and it shows. Its big rear wheels push hard, its front end is light and it reacts to every lump in the ground. That makes even gentle slopes interesting. Once you have learned to read how the tractor rocks back and forth, you will find yourself planning each obstacle like a small puzzle.
